Hi! I'm daimira, and this is the current incarnation of an original fiction archive that was formerly known as Secret Window and ...And Far Away on various domains, which are, mostly, now dead.

All stories are works in progress, except maybe the poetry and the one-shots. Anyway, if you're looking for my real weblog/LJ, it's right over here. Feel free to add this or that to your friends list. I also occasionally post quotes and book reviews on my tumblr account. Summary: Jamie is not universally loved, is concerned by Mike's apparent girl-chasing ways -- oh, and is STILL in denial. Meanwhile, Mike declares hatred of carrots and Schubert.
Excerpt: I wasn’t sure myself why I was cranky. Perhaps it had to do with being dragged out of bed by Tonie Melman, or having to work so hard so early in the morning, or not having that second cup of coffee… It could have been anything, really.

Summary: The vandal's caught -- yay! Introducing Mike and Jamie: King and Queen of Denial, and Michael breaks up with his girlfriend -- sorry girlfriend -- of two days!
Excerpt: Jamie Jenkins, apart from being unexpectedly gutsy, was also unexpectedly persistent. (Sorry, I couldn't find a better excerpt!)

Summary:  Jamie resolves to avoid Mike.  Fortunately, Mike is preoccupied with a brunette.  Mrs. Whitney, however, has other plans.
Excerpt: What had happened – or what had almost happened – maybe even what I had probably imagined to almost happen yesterday obviously meant nothing. It meant nothing to him, and it certainly meant nothing to me.

ETA: LJ is an idiot! Sorry for flooding your flists with a non-cut entry.

Summary: In which Jamie and Mike share a "moment" and several people get to yell at each other. the confusion begins.
Excerpt: And then he was facing me again, and he was moving closer. Much, much closer. I could see all the little green flecks in his blue eyes, how they seemed to shift in the light. His eyelashes cast shadows over his cheeks, and his eyelids, like mine, were slowly, slowly… falling shut…

For some reason, the Jamie chapters tend to run on forever.  Perhaps it's because her parts usually have more dialogue than Mike's, whose chapters tend to be more introspective, I guess.  Anyway, Chapter 10 has been chopped in two for this reason.  Have fun.

Summary: This looks like the beginning of a beautiful friendship. Or, at least, the end of the random trading of insults. Plus, Michael's strange and weird habits.
Excerpt: I watched her go. She really was a strange girl, and I could feel myself growing even more interested in her, beyond what she looked like. I told myself that trying to get close to her this way was probably a bad idea. That she had a boyfriend. That I was wasting my time. But it wouldn’t have done any good, because I was no longer listening.

Summary:  Jamie pokes her nose into stuff that are none of her business and is accused of surfing for porn.  We find out Mike's Hidden Talent #1.
Excerpt:  Every time I decided that Mike was nothing more than an ordinary jock – gorgeous, nice to look at, insensitive and utterly useless – he turned around and did something completely unexpected.

Excerpt: I tried to let it go, but I don’t know if it was because I was in a strange and unfamiliar place, with strange and unfamiliar people, but I was agitated enough as it was. Hearing what Ashten and Jessica thought of me was the final straw.

Excerpt: For some reason, people always gave me that kind of look, as if I were some thing with five heads and a forked tail that belched fire or – worse – broke into loud, cheerful song at unpredictable intervals.

DAIMIRA'S NOTE: I am aware of some problems in the narrative for this chapter -- lots of telling instead of showing. But it was really hard to write for some insane reason. I've done this one over a gazillion times but every single one is just...ugh. I'M SORRY, MICHAEL.

Summary: Where Michael displays yet more staggering feats of clumsiness/ tendency to cause accidents.
Excerpt: And there was Mike Harding (at least I assumed it was Mike Harding – I never knew Tonie to be friendly with the other twin), his hand over hers on the spoon, flour in his dark hair. They appeared to be arguing over something.

Daimira's NOTE:  I actually have nothing noteworthy to say but, just so you know, Mike isn't terminally clumsy like some other literary characters I shall not mention.  He's just easily distracted/ always multi-thinking (sort of like multi-tasking, except only in his head), hence the large number of little "accidents" he gets into.

Summary: In which two paths collide. Well, a soccer ball and a head do, anyway.
Excerpt:  Sometimes, accidents seem like they’re meant to happen, and there are some things we simply can never see coming.  If there’s anything I’ve learned, it’s just that, time and time again.

It was one of those days when you wished it would rain. Because inside your heart, the sun wasn’t really shining.

This is a Michael/Jamie side story focusing on the OTHER Harding twin, Brian, who is actually more normal and sane than his brother. Much wiser, too, but kind of dense when it comes to his own issues. I <3 him.

We are counting stars
and we keep
starting over.
"You start from the left,
I'll take the right."
And yet we never meet
anywhere in the middle.
Our stars
keep flying away from us
as the universe
breathes.

We are chasing our shadows
and we keep
stumbling over.
For a moment,
we are face to face
my shadow and I.

as the sun clings

Summary: Jamie bemoans being dragged to a soccer match against her will.
Excerpt: That was how Mike Harding officially entered my life. By chance. More accurately, by accident. More specifically, by – what I thought at the time – his immense stupidity.

Daimira's NOTE: Yeah, I know the first few chapters will be mostly set-up, with little in the way of actual plot, but more of just...comic moments.  It's just that I can't find a way to keep the M/J relationship from appearing so sudden without all these.  And I already did pull several scenes/conversations that were supposed to happen much, much later forward.  Although it might not be immediately obvious that the things the characters are talking about are actually important (character-development/history-wise).

Summary: Michael is in a bad mood, tries not to break people, and is kissed.
Excerpt: Maybe they were really vicious inside, which would explain why they were so excited for what was essentially going to be a deeply formalized, ritualized war. Minus the blood and life-threatening injuries, of course. If we were lucky.
